About DrewCouver

I was born in New Westminster, British Columbia, and spent my early years in the heart of central British Columbia.

I grew up in a large family of seven, raised by parents who were married for over fifty years—and would still be together today if not for my father’s passing. Family, loyalty, and responsibility were foundational in my life from the beginning.

My younger sister, just a year and a half behind me, played a profound role in shaping who I am. She was born with medical challenges that made much of life harder for her. From an early age, I spent time in child development centres and alongside children living with disabilities. That experience didn’t just expose me to difference—it taught me empathy, patience, and how to truly see people.

Sports became another major influence. I found discipline and belonging through skiing, football, and baseball. My father was an elite Canadian competitor in biathlon—a sport combining cross-country skiing and marksmanship—and his commitment to excellence left a lasting imprint on me.

I’ve played football since childhood, but like many, my late teens and early twenties were derailed by addiction. I reached a point where I had to choose: live or die. I chose life.

Since my mid-twenties, I’ve played on a national title semi-professional football team, spent six seasons playing in the United States, and worked around elite performance and discipline at the highest levels.

Beginning in 1999, I also worked as a personal security professional, supporting high-profile entertainers and professional athletes across the NFL, NHL, and NBA.

In 2000, I transitioned into working as a private contractor with provincial governments and large agencies, creating safe, stable, and nurturing environments for youth in care and individuals in vulnerable situations. Over two decades, I negotiated hundreds of contracts and helped open more than three dozen foster care homes across the Lower Mainland.

Everything shifted during COVID.

I began questioning the systems I had worked within for years. So I bought a camera—and started listening again.

Today, I walk the streets across Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom, talking to everyday people through Voices from the Curb. I document what people are living, not what institutions claim is happening.

At my core, I am a people person.

I help people level up—by listening, by telling the truth, and by creating space for voices that deserve to be heard.

And I’ll keep doing that—as long as the road keeps going.
